At https://phys.org/news/2022-06-earth-magnetic-poles-flip.html … we are told that the earth’s magnetic poles are not likely to flip any time soon. The emergence of a mysterious area in the South Atlantic, where the geomagnetic field strength appears to have declined, has led to ideas circulating on the Internet and floating in the ether, the poles are about to flip. Geomagnetic poles. Not geographical poles. This is the mainstream response, I am supposing. It seems the earth’s magnetic field is far from a stable entity and regularly puts on a spurt, or dies away to a certain degree. Over the last 180 years the magnetic field strength has deviated on several occasions. Further from its home base, during the Holocene period, it has diverged on many occasions.
