This is a space photograph of the Gum Nebula – and this is otherwise known as the Cometary Globule. The latest image resembles an arm sticking out with a hand on the end. It lies, from the view of somebody on Earth, within the constellation of Puppis = the Poop Deck, a cloud of dust and gas where stars are being born. Its odd shape has led to two odd names – a cometary globule, and God’s hand.
