At www.physorg.com/print204290256.html … the official position is that the Large Hadron Collider has found something – but they are a bit shy on saying what it might be. However, the intepretation of what was found was vigorously challenged during the meeting as scientists bounced suggestions off each other – so who knows?
Meanwhile, a paper published in Journal of Chemical Physics (see www.physorg.com/print204267085.html ) begins by saying that understanding chemistry means understanding what electrons are doing. In this paper electron positions were mapped by observing the diffraction of X-ray pulses lasting tens of femtoseconds (quadrillionths of a second). The positions of protons and other nuclei were deduced from the location of regions of high electron density – and a new manner of transfer was observed.
A paper in the Journal of South American Sciences, October 2010 issue (see www.physorg.com/print204200719.html) is about movement of mountians that are now found in Columbia, fronting the Caribbean, but were formerly somewhere near northern Peru. There is also a large submarine canyon carved out of the floor of the Caribbean.
