Hacked phones … and Climategate

Its beginning to look like the implosion by the press as a result of the News of the World 'dodgy practises' might in the end shed a shaft of light into the politics of Climategate. A certain individual, a spinmeister by trade, implicated in the affair, seems not to just have been employed by the police in the battle to counter terrorism but was also hired by the University of East Anglia in the wake of the Climategate email leak. Basically, his role was as a PR advisor, deflecting the blogosphere that had gone ballistic after the release of those emails. Its funny that what started out as a piece of 'politiking' by a highbrow newspaper (sniffing at the red tops) in order, perhaps, to damage the Murdoch bid for 'B Sky B' (one conspiracy theory) has, it seems, turned full circle as AGW hype has been at full throttle in papers such as the Guardian, Telegraph, Observer and Independent – and the most lasting legacy of this press spat may well be that truth will out on climate shenanigans, not what the highbrow press had in mind. We may also bear in mind that Murdoch has yet to launch his counter attack – and what goodies might then be divulged.
