At http://sciencenordic.com/legendary-viking-town-unearthed/ … is about the reported discovery and excavation of a town of over 200 houses and still counting near the Danish border. It is looking like this is the lost 8th century AD Viking town, Sliasthorp. It is located close to a fortified line that separated the Vikings from the Carolingian empire, at that time an expansionary kingdom that had just swallowed up most of Germany. In the process it had forcibly converted the Germans to Christianity, at the command of Charlemagne. The Vikings clearly did not want the same thing to happen to them and the fortified line was built to keep Charlemagne at bay.
