A paper in Archaeological Science (March 4th 2013) by Christelle Layhaye and Eric Boeda (France) place humans in Brazil much earlier than in North America, based on dates obtained from soil and fill as stone itself cannot be dated.

The island of Manda was home to an advanced culture with strong maritime links from around 200AD to approximately 1430AD (disappearing aound the time of the outbreak of the devastating plague known as the Black Death).
