The 'Bad Astronomer' Phil Plait, critical of Velikovsky and the people that take him either seriously or with a grain of salt, seems to have a habit of upsetting people. Matt Ridley is the latest victim – see http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/09/24/the-reply-to-the-bad-astronomer-ph… … and his response to Plait was refused publication at Slate (which says a lot about them) and has instead been published by Anthony Watts. In effect, it has now been viewed by far more people than Slate could dream of.
The comments are worth looking at for enjoyment value. Omnologos begins, 'Plait is another member of the climate fools band …' which sounds rather apt.
Another commenter says, in an American droll way, 'put a feather in this guys hat and he looks like one of those guys the Sheriff of Nottingham sends out to take the last bits of grain from the peasants …' which is really rather good when you think about it. Nothing like a touch of humour to reach parts only words can go.
