At http://phys.org/print303641255.html … it seems geologists might have a new way to look for gold in them thar' hills – find the crater and then dig out the gold. Geologist Bob Watchorn has finally nailed down a huge impact structure in Australia after years of speculation and investigation. He has calculated that all the gold and nickel fields in Western Australia's 'eastern gold fields' fall on rings picked out by Landsat imaging. He has given his name to the Watchorn impact structure which is 560km in diameter at its widest point and it seems a simpler way of panning creeks might be first to find a crater on Google Earth and then go out and have a look see what minerals might be there.
