This is a remarkable find as fossilised bone is usually rock like. Organic matter is normally decomposed. It is therefore a surprising discovery – and useful (as it will enable scientists to understand dinosaur make up). The dinosaur is thought to have lived during the early part of the Jurassic – 200 to 195 million years ago.

It is a shield volcano on the Ethiopian/ Eritrea border, famous for a long surviving lava lake. The phenomenon is said to be caused by three tectonic plates rubbing each other the wrong way.
