At https://phys.org/print462510653.html … an Anglo Saxon cemetery has been found in the Lincolnshire Wolds dating back from the late 5th to early 6th century AD. Interestingly, the Wolds would have been dry land, and possibly a safe place as sea levels were much higher at this time. The burials included a rich array of grave goods such as copper gilded brooches, iron shield bosses etc. The discovery featured in this week's 'Digging for Britain' on BBC 4 (9pm November 28th). At https://phys.org/print462547034.html … research beneath the Archbasilica of St John Laterian has revealed how the world's first Christian cathedral was constructed – and what preceded it …
… the church was originally built in the 4th century AD by orders of Constantine. It would have dominated the Roman skyline. The site itself had been in use for centuries, For example, Constantine had the Castro Nova demolished (the new fort constructed in the reign of Severus). This was the HQ of the imperial horse guard. Underneath the cathedral were discovered many building layers – over hundreds of years.
