At https://notrickszone.com/2019/09/02/settled-science-7-new-papers-show-re… … some seven new papers show regional temperatures were between 2 and 6 degrees C warmer than today – 'during the last glacial' i.e. duyring the last Ice Age. So, how cold was the last Ice Age? Forget the projected co2 concentrations highlighted by the blog author (he is a climate change sceptic) as these are discerned from ice cores (which are assumed to be small snatches of ancient climate, in miniscule proportions). Why should temperatures in some regions be warmer than in the modern world. One instant retort might be a change in the axis of rotation as we are talking about northern Asia. Between 40 and 30,000 years ago tree remains have been found 600 to 1000m above the modern treeline – in the Altai Mountains of Russia (or more properly, Siberia). Another finding is also interesting. The North Atlanitci bottom water temperature is about 4 degrees C in the modern world but during the last glaical (maximum) it was -5 degrees (a difference of 9 degrees C). This may also be explained by pole movement. One may therefore wonder if an Ice Age actually existed – or is it all primarily evidence of pole movements in the geological past.
Another of the papers compares temperature from a lake in California (presumably in the mountains) where modern temperatures are 22 degrees C. In the last glacial they worked out at 31 degrees (and so on).
At https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2019/08/28/eu-destroys-700000-hectares-o… … last week the EU politicos were braying about the evil leader of Brazil, pointing a finger at Amazon forest fires. In reality it was only one province that displayed an increase in fire activity – and other provinces were much the same as previous years. Lots of hot air. However, in one of those cases of facts coming back to kick the politicos up the backside, we are told in this piece that the EU is responsible for the total destruction of 700,000 hectares of rainforest in SE Asia, all because of climate change and biofuels.
At https://wattsupwiththat.com/209/08/27/toba-superuption-perfect-analogy-t… … a few years back we had stoked up studies on a big volcanoe that erupted 74,000 years ago on Sumatra. We are told that ash may have been displaced as far as the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea, and in lakes in Africa. Note the word may as it pops up again. Gases injected into the atmosphere may have caused global temperatures to dip by 18 degrees – a phenomenal amount from a single volcano. Needless to say, there was little archaeological evidence of the volcano affecting human societies in India and SE Asia but don't spoil a good story when its in full flow. The Toba volcano was supposed to have created a human bottleneck – with human numbers in a massive decline. The problem has always been they have a bottleneck at 74,000 years ago but they studiously ignore the bottleneck between 40 and 30,000 years ago (at the onset of the Late Glacial Maximum).
Meanwhile, at https://notrickszone.com/2019/08/28/hitting-the-poor-hard-new-studies-sh… …… new studies show that renewable energy schemes have virtually doubled the price of electrictiy. This is a German perspective where indeed electricity prices have gone through the roof as they have embraced wind turbines and other renewable energy programmes. The price increases come from the subsidies paid to the renewable investors and we may expect electricity prices in the UK to follow suit as more and more wind turbine farms come online. One can understand the Green Blob being keen on this mass suicide pact as after all they dream of reducing radically global population numbers. Perhaps they should pray for a Toba super eruption – or a natural catastrophe of equal destructive power. However, when it comes to the politicos it is less easy to explain as they after all rely on votes to get their cushy numbers (and the well padded life style). It will all come out in the was I suppose.
