A statistical analysis of the raw data shows that claims made about hurricanes and AGW cannot be supported by the facts. Les Hatton, who studied Mathematics at Cambridge, became a meteorologist and in later life a tutor at Kingston University, is a well known computer software specialist. He has now used his statistical abilities to test six IPCC statements against the raw data retrieved from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He has published all the raw data and invited criticism – from anyone. He says he is not a sceptic, or a warmist, but was prompted to do his analysis after the Climategate email leak – which is proving to be a watershed. He found no evidence of an increase in atmospheric energy – which manifests itself in storms (including hurricanes). There was one anomalous year in the Atlantic/ Caribbean, and that was 2005 – the year of Katrina. At the time Katrina was blamed on global warming but various scientists specialising in hurricane research denied this – one of them resigning from the IPCC in protest at the 4th Report.
