Two excellent posts at Tall Bloke's Talk Shop to get your teeth into – firstly we have http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/ray-tomes-human-activity-is-no… which is interesting as Tomes is one of those big brained people that always has something worthwhile listening to, and secondly, at http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/de-vries-cycle-links-warming-r… where we learn the average solar cyle of 11.07 earth orbits multiplied by the lunar cycle of 18.61 earth orbits gives 206.01 – very close to a de Vries cycle. This is interesting as Piers Corbyn uses luni-solar cycles in his weather predictions. However, see the comments – the sums might not be all they seem.
Tall Bloke then looks at the orbits of Venus, Jupiter and Mercury and finds a Fibonacci sequence – which suggests, it could be argued, the distance between the planets is not random chance but forms part of the patterns of resonance. He asks for some help with the numbers – any mathematician with time on his side? Later, we learn about the Phyllotactic solar system (see also www.spirasolaris.ca) and to add a bit of spice, something to whet the appetite, seven de Vries cycles = one Dansgaard Oeschger event (assuming there is a 1470 year glacier climate cycle) – but see article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_variation
Tim Cullen comments, and this might cause ears to prick up, the Parker spiral should really be called the Parker propeller, acting as the flippers on a pinball machine … 'which probably makes Venus the last ball released in the solar system'.
