Well, they probably did exist, somewhere – but not as a kingdom or empire in Anatolia. The goddess turns out to be Ishtar, a semitic deity better known from Nineveh and Sumero-Babylonia.
A cuneiform tablet found at a site not far from Hattusas (which indeed did become the capital of the Hittites in the LB period) is being excavated but the find in question is dated around 2000BC, at the beginning of the MB period.
However, the identity of the Hittites is an interesting subject as in the empire period several languages were spoken and different kinds of physical form were portrayed.
