At http://scienceinpoland.pap.pl/en/news/news,4128a3,taurids-can-be-a-sourc… … Back in the 1990s David Asher of the Armagh Observatory studied the Taurids as part of his work on a doctorate. He noted that sometimes observers reported on Taurid maximums (higher density than at other times) that contained a large number of very bright meteors. His swarm model explained this behaviour with the existence of a narrow and dense stream of particles and a dense stream of meteorites (in what is the dispersed Taurid meteor stream, made up of many streams that have diverged at different times in the past). When the earth's orbit encounters the dense stream of material the Taurid display is more active with lots of light phenomena. The piece at the link above is a taster of what is accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society in the near future (with a Polish lead author but containing a list of up to 30 co-authors). Expect some interesting information on the Clube and Napier model. Can they revive an almost dead donkey. Ther Giant Comet theory certainly requires some resuscitation.
