The researchers say it is remarkable that such massive objects were able to form so soon after Big Bang. It is a challenge to the cosmological model.
The research is in five papers published in The Astrophysical Journal and the Publications of the Astronomical Observatory of Japan (2019). Researchers from Japan, Taiwan, and the US were involved (Princetown University). One of the comments is quite succinct. It makes you wonder if the quasars are throwing out energy rather than sucking it in to a black hole.
