At https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/sep/26/physics-particles-physicists … back in September of 2022, Sabine Hossenfelder had a fascinating article in The Guardian. The subject was particle physics – and the conveyor belt of new particles accepted by peer review. It is in a way a critique of one discipline but it could perhaps be expanded to other sciences, other than physics. It also casts a disparaging eye on why so many particles are invented and why so many are discarded by other physicists, and what they are used for, from computer simulation to propping up explanation for anomalies. Worth a read. Quite short, but succinct.
