Sent in by William – https://www.msn.com/en-ie/news/world/strange-stonehenge-discovered-in-lake-that-s-5-000-years-older-than-the-british-landmark/BB1pG4E3 … an enigmatic stone circle was found beneath the waters of Lake Michigan in 2007. It is 5000 years older than its British counterpart, and 3000 years older than the stone circle in the Sahara. The discovery was unexpected – at a depth of 40 feet. Some of the stones weigh up to 2000lbs and had been deliberately arranged in a circle – which is itself also 40 feet, in diameter. In fact, there are two stone circles – one inside the other. One is roughly 20 feet in diameter, situated inside the one of 40 feet in diameter. It goes back 10,000 years to around 8000BC. At that time the stones would have been situated on dry land. Or, to be exact, on the lake shore. Around 3000BC water levels are thought to have risen and drowned the structure. There are, it seems, carvings on the stones, including an image of what looks like a mastodon. These animals became extinct, it is thought, around the Younger Dryas boundary event. They were a Pleistocene animal. However, in spite of the hype about a stone circle, previously the site  has been identified as a drive lane. A device to channel animals into a kill zone where the hunters lay in wait. Having said that the idea is not accepted by all arcaheologists, even though similar drive ways exist in Arabia and various other locations around the world.

Not a lot was said about the mastodon image, which really requires some input from elsewhere.
