Net Zero Bashing

At https://dailysceptic.org/2024/11/05/science-shock-u-k-met-office-is-inventing-temperature-data-from-100-non-existent-stations/ … and the same story can be seen at https://tallbloke.wordpress.com … and https://wattsupwiththat.com … among others, arousing  some excitement amongst Net Zero sceptics. The evidence appears to be that the UK Met Office is inventing data from weather stations that are now defunct or have disappeared altogether. Their excuse is they use an algorithym to produce an average -even though the station is not in operation. It seems it is not just the odd station that is being treated this way but over a hundred of them out of a total of 320. One third of weather stations used by the Met Office are non existent. Is this cheating?

In some cases the stations have moved to an alternative site but the old site is still being marked down as the one in service. Ray Sanders is the man that did the investigation after becoming suspicious about a local weather station that no longer existed. He went out and looked at all, or at least most of the 320 weather stations. One way to fill your retirement I suppose. Has citizen science come back to bite the Met Office? Joe Public, we may note, has been totally unaware of these strange goings on – yet subsidises through taxation the fat salaries of the Met Office bigwigs.

Meanwhile, Gary has sent in a link to a video on climate change at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD9KG-j7COM&t=93s … or https://youtube.com/watch?v=kD9KG-j7COM&si+y7nCo2oPihT6p6Tb … or simply go on to YouTube and click on Neril Oliver and climate change.

At https://notrickszone.com/2024/12/02/the-barents-sea-was-seasonally-ice-free-for-much-of-the-holocene-today-its-ice-covered-year-round/ … apparently. there is more sea ice in the Artic Ocean today than nearly any time in the last 8000 years. That is a remarkable finding as one of the alarmists big sticks is the claim the Arctic will soon be free of ice in the summer. It is trotted out prior to every COP meeting, and yes, it was blared out just as the 2024 jamboree was in session. The Barents Sea, it would seem, was seasonally ice free from 8000 t0 2100 years ago. Why sea ice would have arrived at the start of the Roman Warm Period is anyone’s guess. However, we may note there is a parallel with the growth of the Sahara Desert, which has progressively become drier over the last few thousand years.

Jennifer Marohasy, in a newsletter, has also come up with some interesting facts – go to https://jennifermarohasy.com … who specialises, as a scientist, in rebuffing alarmist stories concerning the so called death spiral of the Great Barrier Reef. She regularly dives into the reef, quite unlike the climate scientsts spreading the woes. In her latest newsletter she says Bill Kininmonth, in  a study on how oceans warm the atmosphere, and therefore via the atmosphere, the polar regions, made the point the tropical atmosphere is regulated by the tropical oceans. Via convection. Note, this is quite different to radiative transfer. Most of the modern warming is actually over the poles, leading to milder winters in Europe, and elsewhere. This explains why tropical oceans do not get too hot. The heat is transferred to the polar regions. This idea seems very nearly the same as that of earlier researchers who claimed heat from the tropics was transferred to the poles by the ocean conveyor belt system. Namely, a series of global scale ocean streams – including the famous Gulf Stream. Normally, this process is associated with El Nino events which are dispersed into the Southern Ocean, where the water is cooled, but if still too warm, it can pass up through the Atlantic into the Arctic Ocean. At the poles, where the atmosphere is at its thinnest, it rises up from the cold sea and disperses into space. No doubt it does the same at the South Pole. A fitting end if the excess heat has an origin in solar activity pumping lots of energy into the earth system. The Kininmonth idea seems even better. The warm water does not necessarily have to travel all around the ocean basins in order to disperse back into space. Remember, the Sun has been surprisingly active over the last few years – yet we are assured by climate scientists that the Sun plays no role in modern warming.

At https://www.sepp.org … and The Week That Was for November 30th 2024, William [Bill] Kininmonth pops up again, as well as other recent studies on the greenhouse effect. They refer to the Kininmonth study as an analysis of sea surface temperatures, rising and falling, and relay once again much of what Jennifer Marohasy has said. Back in 1859 John Tyndall experimentally discovered co2 absorbs heat. Later, Tyndall became convinced the effect of co2 was insignificant in comparison with water vapour, the biggest greenhouse gas. Note – no mention of methane, or farting cows. Arrhenius, often cited by alarmists, did something similar at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He too changed his mind over the potency of co2 but this is studiously ignored by those that quote his first study [as if his follow up study did not exist]. Telling porkies seems to one of the common denominators when it comes to climate science – and the big money involved.
